I Clearly See

There is sweetness in you, but it’s not sweet like pixie sticks and cotton candy. Your sweetness is more like a cinnamon roll dripping with icing, or a lightly toasted piece of bread that has been buttered from edge to edge. When it’s eaten, the outer part is a little crunchy, but the center, the core of it all, is all buttery goodness that has just enough soft and meltiness to make me want a hundred pieces more.

There is goodness in you. Now to be sure, this is not a goodness like an alter boy carrying a golden chalice as he trots behind the long robes of a priest towards the sacraments. Your goodness is in the good deeds that you do each day. Helping the elderly put groceries in their cars, supporting our neighbors when they have troubles, or all of the little things you do for me in anticipation of making my life easier, these are finite pieces that create a mosaic of goodness I see is you.

There is wholesomeness in you. This isn’t like an old fashioned ad campaign for hot chocolate or squishy white bread. This wholesomeness comes from the root of your being. You are one who was raised by loving parents, grew up around prosperous fields, and learned the value of hard work to move yourself forward in the world. Those beginnings seeded the purity and sense that I see marking the wholesomeness in you.

There is perseverance in you. It is a perseverance that goes beyond the mental as I see you capture a wealth of strength every day to create incredible monuments that others can only stand in awe of, if they are lucky enough to lay eyes on such beauty. You are undaunted by the mounds of undoable deeds, the impossible to secure, and the inevitably unbuildable, as you navigate through the chaos to come out with definable quality of self and service on the other side.

There is loyalty in you. This is not a rehashing of some trite statement plastered on the face of an inspirational poster. It is loyalty lived out in your character as seen in the man you are everyday. It has been observed through decades of business relationships that remain productive, and satisfying. It’s been noted in the bonds of sportsmanship, a secure captain of your teams, win or loose, you are always a teammate and friend. Your loyalty is never more powerful than in your steadfast return to me at days end when you come back to honor me, our life together, and we begin the cycle of life again by meeting the sunrise together each day.
