Unshielded Jester
From a man to a woman
Now, who is waiting on who?
Is it going to be a fabulous life for two?
I thought the ball was in your court
It seems I may have fallen short
There was that one second of uncertain thought
When I said some words that I should have not
I’m gritting my teeth in worry now
I smack myself in the head yelling, “How!”
I know that I often act like a buffoon
Your eyes tell me when they see me as a loon
Please, forgive me when I am this way
Sheesh, I know there will always be hell to pay
In this moment I need to stuff the clown in me low
For I am ready to perform my very most important show
I’m taking your gracious and forgiving hand in mine
For now I know it’s absolutely the spot-on time
I love you for your total acceptance of me
I love you because your eyes roll with what they see
I love your laughter at the abysmal jokes I make
I love that you give me kisses on the take
I love your exasperation with my many limits
I love how you still allow me to be a total dimwit
I cannot imagine a life without you, apart
I will suffer anything to save your heart
I promise to provide a life full of fun and the zany
I will strive to make all of our days bright and never rainy
I am unshielded before you upon my knees
I ask you my love, will you take this jester, please?
